Ian Bishop Saw Sharpening has been in business for over 20 years and is owned and managed by Ian in Hawera, South Taranaki. We specailize in repairing and sharpening tungsten tipped blades for scrub cutting, circular and bench saws, router and plainer bits, along with straight edged knives that are used for skinning, boning and general purpose kitchen knives.
Originally from Napier Ian had a brilliant rugby career playing for Hawkes Bay which was arguably their most successful era from 1963 to 1972 Ians rugby career included 96 first class games, 631 points and 21 successful Ranfurly Shield defences for the Magpies and two All Black trials. Ian is still 2nd behind the late Jarrod Cunningham who overtook Ian in 1998 on the Hawkes Bay all time points scoring table.
After retiring from first class rugby in 1972 Ian, his wife Astrid and their three children moved to Wellington so he could take up a role as sales/account manager for Fletcher Steel. After 6 years of big city life, the opportunity to move to rural Hawera in South Taranaki for work and to provide a country upbringing for their three children, was too good to refuse.
Originally working for Hawera Roofing then T H Walkers Meat Processing (Now Silver Fern Farms - Hawera), where he worked as one of the boning room managers for 20 years, Ian established Ian Bishop Saw Sharpening and has turned it into a successful home business that offers the true kiwi can do attitude and excellent customer service.
After 30 odd years of working and living in Hawera Ian is a keen bridge player, occasional golfer, part time committee member, regular patron of the South Taranaki Club and a proud Granddad and Great Granddad (not to mention a pretty good Dad too).
